Rules for the carriage of dangerous goods (former cat. 9)
Purpose: to train the employees engaged in passenger servicing to carry out their duties in accordance with (former) Category 9 of IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), the service regulations of airlines, and Latvian Cabinet Regulation No. 123 on the procedure for the carriage of dangerous goods and cargo.
Training content
- Definition of dangerous goods. Legal basis of the programme.
- Classification and identification of dangerous goods. Explanation of IATA DGR Table 2.3.A. Practical examples; work with the table.
- PEE containing lithium ion, metal elements, or batteries; certain types of batteries, hazards associated with them, rules for safe carriage; IATA DGR Table 2.3.A.
- Markings and identification stickers for dangerous goods. Action plan when such markings or stickers are identified, stickers on passenger baggage and elsewhere.
- Possible hidden dangerous goods in passenger baggage. Types of restrictions on transporting dangerous goods.
- Practical examples; work with IATA DGR Table 2.3.A. Action plan if hidden dangerous goods are identified.
- Possible risks related to dangerous goods when handling and transporting the equipment or baggage of individuals and target groups. Practical examples; IATA DGR Table 2.3.A.
- Ways of informing a passenger of which goods are classified as dangerous in air transport. Internal communication of staff when handling dangerous goods.
- Incidents with dangerous goods. Action plan in the event of an incident. The effect and impact of dangerous goods on human health and the environment.

Term of validityHaving completed the training, participants receive a certificate that is valid for 2 years.

When do I have the recurrent training?Enrolment in recurrent training is possible within the last 3 calendar months before the initial certification expires. If the employee has been absent for 6 to 12 months, they must undergo recurrent training; if absent for 12 months or more, initial training must be repeated.

Marika Kere
As a Certified Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) instructor (Category 6), Marika develops and teaches training programmes covering binding procedures at the airfield, airfield maintenance, traffic management, and aircraft handling processes. She conducts professional competence tests for aircraft handling processes.
Marika has professional knowledge in the implementation of the safety management system (SMS), airfield processes, emergency management and aircraft handling gained at Airport Council International (ACI) and Ground Handling Service Provider (GHSP) training centres.
